  1. The travel awards provided for the 2016 Postdoctoral Preparation Institute are federally-funded by a training grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health.
  2. Participation/travel award funding for the 2016 PPI is limited to USA citizens and Legal Permanent Residents of the USA who reside within the USA or USA territories.  All applications for the 2016 PPI must be received no later than Friday, May 6, 2016, 5:00PM EDT. Late and/or incomplete application packets will be declined upon receipt. Onsite registration will not be available.
  3. All documentation requested in the application form must be included and submitted in order to apply for the 2016 PPI, even if you are not applying for a travel award.  NOTE: If you are not applying for a travel award, please include all requested documentatiom except the "statement of financial need."
  4. All approved and accepted applicants will be required to pay a registration fee of $25.00 to participate in the 2016 PPI.  This payment must be included with your application at the time your application is submitted.
  5. Travel awards will be provided for all eligible and selected applicants (those not receiving federally- funded travel expenses and meeting other criteria e.g., citizenship/residency status) who are approved and selected to participate in the Institute. The maximum amount allowed for the travel award is up to $1,500).  NOTE:  We are not allowed to provide travel awards for selected participants who reside within a 50-mile radius of the meeting venue in Bethesda, MD. 
  6. Travel Award Restrictions for Applicants Who Are Federally-Funded:
    1. The FASEB MARC Program is not able to provide travel funds to any applicant who is directly supported by federal funds/grants which include travel support for specifically for the applicant to attend meetings, workshops and other training activities. This means that applicants who are supported by NIH F-series and NIH K-series (e.g., NRSA Postdoctoral F32 Fellowships, NIH Postdoctoral IRTA, NIH K-awards, etc.), or applicants who have similar support from other federal agencies (e.g., NSF, etc.) may not receive travel support from the FASEB MARC Program.
    2. An applicant who directly receives federal funding by NIH F-series and NIH K-series (e.g., NRSA Postdoctoral F32 Fellowships, NIH Postdoctoral IRTA, NIH K-awards, etc.) may apply to attend to Institute; however, s/he will be responsible for covering the travel and lodging expenses.
    3. The FASEB MARC Program is also prohibited from providing funds to employees and trainees at federal facilities who receive federal support for their salaries/wages.     4. Exception:  Graduate students and/or Postdoctoral Fellows who are supported through their mentors’ NIH T32, NIH R01 grant or similar grants from federal agencies are eligible to apply and may receive travel funds for the 2016 PPI. All sources of federal funding support must be disclosed with the submitted application packet.
  7. Cancellation Policy: A $15.00 administrative fee will be assessed if notification is received in writing, post-marked fifteen (15) business days prior to the 2016 PPI. There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than fifteen (15) business days in advance of the 2016 PPI. All refunds will be processed after June 24, 2016.
  8. Reimbursement Policy:  Travel awards are processed as reimbursements to the award recipients.  An award recipient will be required to pay his/her travel-related expenses first, and then request reimbursement from the FASEB Office of Sponsored Programs, Diversity and Grants Administration after completion of travel to/from the program.  Original receipts for eligible travel-related expenses will be required in order to receive reimbursements.

Applicants must complete the Registration/Travel Award Application Form and provide the following documentation with the completed application form: 

Proof of USA Citizenship or Permanent Resident of the USA status:  Provide a copy of one of the following: USA Passport ID Page, Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of United States Citizenship, Consular Registration of Birth Abroad, or Permanent Resident “green card’.

A current CV/Resume (including all sources of federal funding support you receive.)

A one-page statement demonstrating financial need and identifying potential benefits to be gained and the anticipated effect this institute may have on your planned research career. (Submit only if you are requesting consideration for a travel award.)

A letter of recommendation on departmental letterhead signed by your mentor, department head/chair or dean. Be sure to include the email address and daytime phone number of your mentor, chair or dean. 

All applicants must be approved by the FASEB MARC Program review committee. The FASEB MARC Program review committee will select the participants based on the review and consideration of all supporting documentation provided by the applicants.

Applicants selected to participate in this 2-day program will be notified by the FASEB Office of Sponsored Programs, Diversity and Grants Administration upon approval of their application/registration.
