What was the 2013 TWD meeting?
The 2013 TWD Program Directors' Meeting was a three-day gathering in Chicago, June 12–14, 2013, for people who ran NIGMS-funded training and diversity programs. NIGMS had created its Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity in 2011 by bringing its research training programs and its diversity programs under one roof. This meeting was an early chance for directors from both sides of that merger to meet in one place.
The organizers chose networking as the theme. The aim was practical: directors of programs at very different institutions, from community colleges to large research universities, were expected to compare notes, find partners and see how other campuses handled recruitment, mentoring and student tracking.
